IN advance of Celtronic 2008 later this summer, Ireland's leading electronic music festival, Celtronic will hold two events at this years City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival.
The first event will take place in the sumptuous surroundings of the ballroom at St Columbs Hall, Orchard St, Derry on Friday May 2nd. Special guest will be legendary DJ, producer, and soundtrack composer, David Holmes. David Holmes is the Iggy Pop o
f the decks- the individual who simply doesn't give a **** and has the arrogance and invention to carry it off with his own particular style. Holmes was at the forefront of the dance music scene in Ireland when the house and techno boom hit in the late '80s. His club night Sugar Sweet was the first venue for serious dance music in Ireland. Within a short space of time, David Holmes was recognized as one of the best DJ's in the world, guesting at clubs everywhere and getting major remix offers. His albums, 'This Film's Crap, Let's Slash the Seats', 'Lets Get Killed' and 'Bow Down to The Exit Sign' have enjoyed commercial and massive critical acclaim. More recently, David Holmes has made Hollywood his second home, completing soundtracks for major films such as Out of Sight, Oceans 11, 12 and 13, Buffalo Soldiers and Analyze That. Currently, putting the finishing touches to his new album, this should prove to be one of the highlights of this years festival. Completing the lineup at this unmissable event are Paul Brown, Beatnik Soul DJs, Vincent O'Callaghan and Mark Kenny. Doors: 10.00pm - late. Adm: £7/8. Advance tickets are on sale now at St Columbs Hall Box Office and online at http://www.wegottickets.com/event/29875
The second of Celtronic's events takes place at Masons, Magazine St on Saturday May 3rd. Special guests at the event will be German house heroes, Ame. Ame (pronounced Ahm, meaning French for soul) are Frank Wiedemann and Kristian Beyer. Their soulful mission to explore far beyond the borders of house music has captured the attention of all the major peeps involved in present club music. By bridging the gap for all kinds of music lovers ranging from techno, house or broken beat, Âme attract most of them by keeping a warm and analogue feel with the right punch and precision for the dance floor. They have delivered constant quality tracks such as 'Balandine', 'Rej', 'Ojomo' and 'Engoli' which have been among the biggest tunes of the last couple of years. The duo move on to the next step with their new production which shows again that they are constantly evolving without recycling the same formula. Their deep and groovy brand of house music is as clear in their DJ sets as it is on any one of their twelve inch releases on Innervisions, the world's number one house music label which they co-own with Dixon and Henrik Schwarz. Technically faultless, their DJ sets are as immaculate as their productions.
Support comes from Deep Fried Funk resident DJs. Doors: 9.30pm - late. Adm: £6 b4 10.30pm. Early arrival advised as numbers are very limited. Celtronic 2008 will take place at various venues across Derry from June 25th - 29th.
