ST JOHNSTON finally booked their place in Senior One of the North West league on Saturday when they overcame Burndennett to clinch the Billy Henderson Properties Ltd Senior Two title.
The game was one of just three to survive the rain and although played on the all-weather pitch was a decent contest for most of the afternoon.

The hosts batted first and got off to a decent start with Mark Roulston and Conan Pollock posting a 50 partnership for the first wicket. John McCormick, making his senior debut this season hit a half century as Burndennett, without several first team players made 189 all out.

The champions elect made heavy weather of it at the start of their reply and at 42 for 3 it was certainly game on. David Fleming was then caught without scoring but the eagle eyed square leg umpire David Bradley had spotted a fielding incursion and the batsmen was called back for a second life.

Fleming certainly made the most of his opportunity then going on to make an unbeaten 59 and sharing an unbroken 140 run partnership with Alan MacBeth who fittingly was there at the end on 69 as his side claimed the title.

Jason Foley's Burndennett side are to be commended on the fact that they really served it up to St Johnston even with a depleted side and also for the fact that they proved a wonderful host to the new champions by filling the trophy on more than one occasion.

The other games saw Bonds Glen defeat The Nedd in an enjoyable contest at the Glen where the hosts made 219 for 6 declared. Martin Mehaffey top scored with 46 whilst there were contributions from all over the team as well.

The Nedd, undoubtedly the most improved side in the league this year rarely threatened to match that despite 37 from Kyle Morrow and 34 from Johnny Murray and were beaten by 74 runs in the end.

The final contest was over in no time as Killyclooney travelled to Drummond and recorded their second facile win in the space of a week.

Having beaten Sion Mills last week with the minimum of fuss, Ken Colhoun's side was at it again on Saturday when they dismissed their hosts for just 42. Dirk Marais, who claimed a hat-trick last week, did it again here but this time he didn't have the honour all to himself as team-mate Mark Snodgrass also took three in three.

Killyclooney then needed just six overs to reach the target as Drummond, like Sion gave the impression of a team already in winter mode.

The final set of fixtures this coming Saturday are all now distinctly end of season, the champions travelling to in-form Killyclooney in the pick of them whilst The Nedd and Burndennett really ought to finish with wins over Sion and Drummond respectively. Bonds Glen host Creevedonnell in the final game.
