WITH all the focus centred around the fiasco in Senior One on Saturday it was easy to forget there was almost a full programme of action in Senior Two on the final day of the 2009 season.
St Johnston had already bagged the league title last week of course but Andrew Fleming was determined to keep their excellent record intact as they finished their season with a trip to Killyclooney.

Batting first the hosts made 121 all out with Dirk Marais top scoring with 57 and James Robinson taking the bowling honours with 4 for 38. Skipper Fleming and Ian MacBeth claimed two wickets apiece as well and although the visitors gave their lower order a bat they still had plenty in hand. Stuart Lapsley made an unbeaten 42 in a comfortable last day for the champions.

Burndennett finished their campaign by accounting for Drummond with Lucas Brolly enjoying a good day by top scoring for the visitors with 34 of their total of 129. Brolly then picked up three stumpings as Stevie Moore claimed figures of 4 for 18 in Burndennett's reply, although neither was enough to prevent the home team claiming the points as an unbeaten half century from Mark Roulston helped Burndennett to a straightforward win.

The Nedd recorded win number nine of a superb season when they beat Sion Mills in the closest game of the day. The Ballykelly side posted a total of 132, Kyle Morrow hitting 11 fours and 3 sixes in making 81 of those with Johnny Heavern returning the excellent figures of 5 for 20.

Sion's problem this season has been getting among the runs however and it was their downfall here too as they were all out for 113, only Heavern with 21 and Johnny McCrea 23 making sufficient contributions.

Skipper Vinny O'Hara's 4 for 13 was the pick of the hosts bowling as they signed off 2009 with another win.

Bonds Glen beat Creevedonnell in a high scoring game up at the Glen. Brian Dougherty's side made exactly 200, courtesy of 68 from number eight Don Dougherty and 40 from number 10 Raymond Gibson whilst William Moore (3 for 24) was the pick of the hosts' attack.

An unbeaten 64 from skipper Martin Mehaffey however set the Bee Gees on their way to the target with David Robinson chipping in with 45 at the top of the order and Richard Thompson finishing the job with an unbeaten 37. Charlie Elder claimed 3 for 37 but it was to be Bonds Glen's day as the stumps were pulled in Senior Two for the final time in 2009.

It's been an excellent campaign with many big individual and team performances however little doubt that whilst The Nedd certainly take the plaudits as the most improved team of the season, St Johnston have proved to be most deserving winners of this year's title.

Coleraine join the party again next season and with Ardmore still there and Burndennett and Killyclooney loitering around it looks like being just as keenly contested in 2010.
