Students from the North West Regional College in Londonderry and Limavady were among some 1,300 students that attended the Open Day at the Institute of Technology In Sligo this month.

The Institute of Technology in Sligo is a third-level institution located just two hours from Derry offering more than 50 programmes from Higher Certificate to PhD level.

Student Affairs Manager Gerry Hegarty said that studying at IT Sligo is an increasingly attractive option for students from Northern Ireland “Since the rise in fees in the UK, we’ve been experiencing a lot more interest from prospective students in Northern Ireland,” he said. “Unlike in the UK, there are no tuition fees at IT Sligo and Sligo is also a very affordable place to live. We offer a wide range of third level programmes right up to PhD level in the areas of Science, Engineering, Design, Business and Social Sciences.”

IT Sligo holds the Erasmus University Charter and all qualifications are based on the European Credit Transfer System. In addition many of its programmes also carry accreditation and recognition from the relevant professional bodies, such as ACCA, RICS, and Engineers Ireland.

More than 6,000 students are registered at the Institute, which is located on a modern 70-acre campus in Sligo. There is a very strong sporting tradition and more than €50,000 is awarded annually in sport scholarships. IT Sligo also welcomes applicants holding NVQ, BTEC and Foundation Degrees for ‘advanced entry.
