INSTITUTE defender Ruairi Boyle has urged the Institute board to appoint John Gregg as their permanent manager and Raymond McGuinness as his assistant.
The skipper, who also feels that the Drumahoe men will be in next season's invitational league, admits that if the duo had been in place earlier in the season then they would have finished higher up the table.
"Obviously Saturday's defeat was disapp
ointing, but I just think with the two boys coming in with six weeks to go, they have changed things around," said Boyle.
"Both John and McGinn have got all of us working hard for each other and the training has been different class and I honestly feel if they had have been in place with maybe a third of the season remaining, then we could have finished at least in seventh place.
"I feel if the club has any brains then they would give John the manager's job and keep McGinn as his assistant and let them do their work.
"We know we have a good young team here and anyone who comes to our matches knows that we are a decent wee side who like to play football. We just have to start learning how not to get beaten, that is something which John and Raymond have been trying to drill into to us.
"Even though they only had a few games working with us, the difference has been unbelievable. In just their first game at Linfield, we played to a system and stuck to it and were unlucky not to get a point, in fact Linfield started to take the ball into the corner flag with five minutes remaining.
"Earlier in the season that wouldn't have happened after we went a goal down, to be honest we might have been beaten four or five, so as far as I'm concerned we are going in the right direction."
The former Derry City man feels that the Waterside men need to know sooner rather than later if they are gaining enter into next season's Premier Division.
"Only the Irish League would allow this to happen.
"Players are finishing the season and don't know what league they'll be in next season, it's a disgrace.
"They should have said at the start of the season that they were going to choose 12 teams, what they really are doing anyway and just do that.
"It's not my business but Portadown have messed up big-time, they were late in bringing in their criteria, Limavady United were also late, so in my opinion if you are late then out you go, that's the way it is.
"Look at the work this club has done particularly over the last few months, from the chairman to the rest of the committee, they are either painting or hammering at something at the ground, or they are away trying to gain funds for the club, so this wee club deserves Premier Division football."
